About the FFL
Throughout its history up to nowadays the Faculty has been heavily engaged in the advanced teaching and studying of German and Romance languages, combining new and well-proven teaching methods with the most up-to-date techniques and equipment.
The faculty educators provide students with fundamental knowledge and conduct various scientific research projects in the modern branches of philology.
The Faculty works with students of two educational levels preparing them for Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in full-time study.



Bachelor’s Degree
Bachelor’s Degree is an educational and qualification level of a person who received basic higher education, got fundamental and special skills and knowledge of a generalized object of labor or activity. One is eligible of studying for the Bachelor’s Degree on the basis of complete secondary education. Skills and knowledge acquired while studying are sufficient for the execution of tasks and duties required for basic positions in a certain type of activity.
Master’s Degree
Master’s Degree is an educational qualification level of a professional who, on the basis of the bachelor’s degree, has acquired profound special knowledge and skills in research and innovation fields, and who has experience in their application and production of new knowledge for solving professional tasks in a particular branch of the economy.

Department of Translation Theory and Practice

The Department of Theory and Practice of Translation provides profound knowledge in the fields of translation and interpreting for those acquiring Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. The educational process is aimed at developing many professional competences, including the ability to apply in-depth knowledge of linguistics and translation studies professionally; use learned foreign languages freely and effectively, both verbally and in writing, solve communicative tasks in different fields of life and others.
Department of English Philology

The Department prepares students in the major “English Language and Translation” in full-time study. Educational and professional program provides the acquisition of skills and competences for a teacher of the first (English) and the second foreign languages (German / French / Spanish), as well as for a translator. The program provides student-centered, problem-oriented studying, which includes communicative and interactive methods during lectures, laboratory and practical classes.
Department of German Philology

The department prepares students in the major “German Language and Translation” in full-time study. Graduates of the program can carry out teaching, educational, scientific and methodical, organizational and managerial activities in educational institutions, as well as translation activities in institutions of all forms of ownership, which require this, according to the occupational classifier ДК (DK) 003: 2010. The range of positions includes Teachers of higher education institutions of I-II degrees (code КП (KP) 2310.2); Professionals in the fields of philology, linguistics and translation (code КП (KP) 2444); Philologists, Linguists, Translators and Interpreters (code КП (KP) 2444.2), Secondary school teachers (code КП (KP) 232).
Department of Romance Languages and World Literature

The Department of Romance Languages and World Literature prepares students for acquiring Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in the major “French language and translation”. Graduates of the program can carry out teaching, educational, scientific and methodical, organizational and managerial activities in educational institutions, as well as translation activities in institutions of all forms of ownership, which require this, according to the occupational classifier ДК (DK) 003: 2010.
Department of Foreign Languages of Professional Specialism

The Department of Foreign Languages of Professional Specialism provides courses in foreign languages (English, German, French and Spanish) for undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students of economics, humanities and natural sciences of non-linguistic faculties of Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University.
