To Degree-Seeking Students
Today, the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Donetsk National University is a leading educational and scientific-methodical center for training of foreign language teachers, translators and specialists in foreign philology of the highest qualification both for Ukraine and for the CIS countries, Asia and Africa. About four hundred students study at the faculty according to a multilevel system – the first degree of education (bachelor’s degree) and the second (master’s degree). The university has introduced and successfully provides training in a third foreign language of the student’s choice: French, Spanish and Italian.
The five departments of the faculty provide classical basic education as well as conduct research in modern areas of philology.

Dear Prospective Student!
There are about 5,000 languages in the world now. Of course, not all of them are actively studied; the names of some of them (for example, Sugbuanon – one of the languages in the Philippines – 12 million speakers; Igbo – one of the languages in Nigeria – 20 million speakers) remain unknown to many. The languages that for economic, cultural and other reasons take pride of place in the world, namely English, German, French, Spanish, which are offered to study in our faculty.
You will not just study foreign languages, but become specialists in these languages – teachers and translators. You will find out how the certain language originated and developed, what structure it has, what literature is published in this language. Moreover, you will be able to study these languages, compare them with each other, as well as with Ukrainian and Russian. You will be able to study the history and theory of the world literature. It will not be easy to follow the path of cognition, but per aspera ad astra (“through the thorns – to the stars”), teachers, experienced scientists, fellow students will always help you. So let’s start the journey to the knowledge and profession!
